Do You Fall Into This Trap?

If you are human, you have done it. You compare yourself to other people. The good news is that people out there compare themselves to you and the not-so-good news is that you do it, as well. While neither is benefit of the other, it is simply part of human nature. It’s how we grow, it’s how we strive, but sometimes, unfortunately, it’s sometimes an excuse to give up, as well.  A Fixed Mindset If we don’t have something to compare ourselves to, you might reason, then how will we learn to achieve and grow? Sometimes, when we compare ourselves to others, we have something to gauge our success and failure with and, therefore, a measure of where we can do better and achieve more. However, unfortunately, for those with a fixed mindset, this does not occur at all. There is actually a reverse method of thinking. That reverse method tells us, since we are not as good as the other person, we might as well just quit. That doesn’t work in the world of intelligence, however. It is ineffe...

Put Your Savings On Autopilot

Putting a little money away for a rainy day isn’t always easy. You may have some good intentions, but at the end of the day, there just isn’t any money left. Somehow, whatever you make is spent before you make it to the next paycheck. Start by making a  budget . Take a look at what you bring in each month. Next, write down your fixed expenses. These are things like rent, car payments, utilities etc. Figure out how much you need each month for groceries and other essentials. This is your bare bones budget. It’s good to know what you need to get by each month. Next, it’s time for a little bit of math. Start with what you bring in each month and subtract all your core expenses. What you’re left with is your discretional income. This will pay for entertainment, clothes, getting your nails done etc. And from here on out, part of that discretional income will go into a savings account. Pick a number you’re comfortable with. Maybe that’s just $20 per month, mayb...

4 Reasons Why You Need To Keep A Household Budget

We work hard to earn a living. We should make sure we spend the money we bring home wisely. That’s where a household budget comes in. It is a good tool to see at a glance what we have coming in, what is going out (essentially, what that money is paying for) and if there’s anything left at the end of the month. Before we dive into exactly what a budget can do for us, let’s consider for a minute what will happen if we’re not tracking income and expenses. We may end up spending more than we are making in a given month. Over time, that can put us into some pretty hot water financially. We may also spend a lot more than we’d like to believe on things like eating out, going to the movies or new clothes. Having a budget gives us more control over where we want to really spend our hard earned cash. Maybe that’s dinner and a movie, but maybe it isn’t. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an actual choice? So why do do need to keep a household budget? It Tracks Where Your M...

A Different Perspective

Perspective relates to the way you see things. Two people may see the same thing differently. It depends on how they see it. In order words, HOW we see things determines WHAT we see. The half-full/half-empty analogy is a matter of perspective - how do you see the glass? SO when next you see or ponder on something, ask yourself, "Can I see this same thing in a different light? I can see it differently, maybe in a better perspective?" I will give you a simple example. When you watch a football game on your TV, you are actually the expert. You see clearly what should be done, the best strategy to execute, either to pass the ball to teammate A or teammate B or take a shot at goal. The player on pitch is usually 'handicapped' by what he sees in the thick of the action. So, you end up criticizing him if he makes the wrong decision based on his limited perspective, "Oh, he should have made an attempt at goal instead of passing the ball!"  Or probably, ...

The Real Failures

Everyone has that big, tall dream they hope/wish to live someday; a world they believe once they achieve will make them fulfilled. On the most part, it could be related to material wealth or fame, or reaching certain milestones in their career or personal life. Whatever it is, the mere thought of reaching that promised land gives them the 'kick'. Think of that big, exciting dream you have which you may have shared with others or simply kept to yourself. How beautiful it would be to actually live it; to live in the moment with the widest grin ever on your face after throwing that 'yes!' sucker punch... Now you smile. Unfortunately, ninety seven percent of people who dream will never get the opportunity to live that moment of actualization, talk more of enjoying the rewards for dreaming big. And it will interest you to know that the "unfortunate" element about their failure to reach their goal(s) is not because they tried and fell short. It is because they ...
